We are a friendly email discussion group for vision impaired Christians. Ordinary people supporting each other in our daily walk with Jesus. Echurch-UK is non-denominational, consisting of regular churchgoers and others who find it difficult to join a church of their own. We discuss Christian basics, or help each other understand the Bible. We pray for each other, share a few jokes, and encourage each other all the time. Our mailing list is easy to join.
Although most Echurch-UK members are from the UK, international subscribers are most welcome. If you are blind or partially sighted and believe in Jesus as your Saviour and Lord, then you qualify to join us. We do not have a long set of rules but ask subscribers to simply show love, tolerance and respect for one another. Bad language or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated. In irresolvable disputes, our moderators' decision is final.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/echurch-uk
On 8 December 1999 the European Commission launched an initiative entitled "eEurope - An Information Society for All", which proposed ambitious targets to bring the benefits of the Information Society within reach of all Europeans. The initial plan focused on ten priority areas, from education to transport and from healthcare to the people with disabilities.
This email list was set up soon afterwards by request of the Portuguese Minister of Science and Technology for the discussion of a list of essential actions concerning the needs of the people with disabilities.
The eEurope initiative and its action plan have been approved during the Portuguese presidency of the European Union (first half of 2000). Some results should be available at the end of 2001 but the bulk of the actions have a deadline at the end of 2002. The homepage of the eEurope action can be found at: http://europa.eu.int/information_society/eeurope/index_en.htm
